A tight, clean, sound copy in color wraps with very minor overall shelf wear plus there is heavy clear plastic lamination applied to the covers plus there are the usual library marks, stamps, labels, and pocket on the top, bottom, and right outside paper edges, the spine and front cover, the inside surface of the front cover, the front endpaper, and the title page. A book about the surge of wartime workers during World War II who came to Canada's northwest. This work force was diverse, men and women, black and white, civilian and military. They overwhelmed the primarily Native popoulation of the region. They also, under harsh and unfamiliar conditions, built airfields, roads, and pipelines necessary for the war effort. This book places special emphasis on anecdotal experiences and produces a broad picture of the lives of these workers that include their coping with weather, recreation, organization, the effects on the Native inhabitants, and the role of military labor battalions.
