BD2 - A tight, clean, sound copy with minor overall shelf wear with some light creasing on the front cover up towards the top right corner plus there is some very, very light creasing along the front spine edges plus there is some light overall rubbing of the covers plus there is some very, very light edge wear along the free edges of the covers plus there is some very light label staining on the back cover plus the original owner's name has been marked out with large black marker on the inside surface of the front cover plus there is some very, very light yellowing of the back cover. Translated form the French by A. W. Evans. This is a facsilmile reprint of a satirical fantasy novel in which God first creates penguins, giving them souls. They learn passion, politics, and war and the ensuing centuries are filled with despotic rulers, exploitation of the weak and the poor, continuous intrigue, and sexual adventurs. A tight, clean, sound copy quarter bound in red cloth with red and white fleur-de-lis patterned cloth covered boards with gold lettering on the spine with very minor overall shelf wear mainly in the form of fading of the spine. There is a slipcase instead of a dust jacket with light brown paper covering with minor overall wear plus edge wear exposing the boards at the front left corners plus some very light soiling of front. This is the authorized translation from the French by Alfred Allinson with an introduction by André Maurois and illustrations by Jean Oberlé. Published by arrangement with The Nonesuch Press, London. There is no publication date nor publisher's location provided but the publication date is estimated as 1942. A novel of the French Revolution.
