This is the story of Holocaust survivors in New York in the early 1950s and their narrator. He is a magazine writer who finds himself in love with a young woman simultaneously in love with another, older man and Holocaust survivor. The story has bizarre twists and turns and unusual characters reflecting the author's skill as a storyteller. Translated by the author and Nili Wachtel. This book was originally published serially in 1981-83. The author is a winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature.
