Stated first edition with no additional printings indicated. An unread, tight, clean, sound copy in brown paper coverd boards quarter bound in orange cloth with gold lettering and graphics on the spine with very, very minor overall shelf wear with some very slight yellowing of the paper edges. The dust jacket shows very minor overall shelf wear with some very light yellowing on the spine plus there is some very light scattered rubbing. Translated from the French by Jon Rothschild. A novel set in China during the Cultural Revolution. The main character is still young and lives with his family in a village deep in rural China. Though he was brought up in the city, he enjoys the rural life. He becomes fast friends with a local boy and imerses himself in rural life. But then becomes drawn into the brigade of children mobilized by Chairman Mao to destroy the old ways, driven in part by his dreams of being a hero of the Revolution just like his father.
