The supernatural thriller 'Heart-Shaped Box' is two-time Bram Stoker Award-winner Joe Hill's first published novel. The main character is a self-indulgent middle-aged rock star Jude Coyne who has maintains a hobby collecting morbid artifacts. Because he sees his hobby as only an amusing side interest, he does not hesitate to purchase through an online auction site, a man's suit described as being haunted by its recently dead owner's ghost. It is only after Jude receives the suit, shipped in a heart-shaped box, that he finds out that it belonged to the stepfather of one of the rock star's groupies who committed suicide after Judas discarded her. It turns out that the old man's ghost is determined to kill Judas as revenge for his stepdaughter's suicide and, after acquiring the dead man's suit, everywhere Jude looks he sees the disturbingly distorted image of an old man with a razor hanging from a chain on his ring finger. Joe Hill is the pseudonym of Joseph Hillstrom King, born 1972, son of Stephen King and an apparent heir of his father's talent for horror. He is an award-winning writer for his short fiction which has earned him, among other things, two Bram Stoker Awards and a Ray Bradbury Fellowship. His first book, the collection of his stories titled '20th Century Ghosts' has generated considerable interest in his potential as a writer in horror literature. 5.5"x8.6", 368 pages.
