BC3 - A tight, clean, sound copy with the usual library stamps on the front endpaper and top outside paper edges plus the front endpaper has been removed as part of the library's withdrawal process. The dust jacket shows only very minor overall shelf wear plus it is still in the original library mylar sleeve with the usual library label on the spine wrapping around onto the back plus the dust jacket endflaps have been glued down to the inside surfaces of the boards. The novel is set in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1938. The main character is a nine year old who was orphaned by a zeppelin crash. He grows up in a hotel under the care of his magnetic uncle and then they work together as guards in Halifax's three room Glace Museum. He is trying to keep the affection of the young woman who is caretaker of the small Jewish cemetery. In a flight of romanticism she decides to leave to be a Jew in Amsterdam. She leaves her job and becomes involved with another young man who is obsessed with the horrific news being broadcast from Europe. Two of the author's novels have been finalists for the National Book Award. By the author of "The Northern Lights" and "The Bird Artist." 310p. SCW04517
