Stated first edition. A tight, clean, sound copy in tan paper covered boards quarter bound in black paper with gold lettering and a graphic on the spine with minor overall shelf wear plus there is some very, very light edge wear around the spine top and bottom edges plus there are the usual library stamps and labels on the top outside paper edges and front endpaper plus the dust jacket endflaps are glued down to the inside surfaces of the boards plus there the book is very slightly shelf cocked. the dust jacket shows very minor overall shelf wear plus it is still in the original library mylar sleeve plus the endflaps are glued down to the inside surfaces of the boards. This novel picks up several years after where the author left off in his novel"Edisto," on a strip of coast in the low country of South Carolina. The main character has finished college but is not ready to start his architectural career just yet. It starts out as a story of torpor and incest taboo but soon he has enough of his mother and "turned-out-well" cousin and heads out on a road trip to Texas and Louisiana. In route, hedecides to see his mother's ex-lover who initiated the young man into women and liquor. He finds him hanging out in the bayous. After a bit of time though he decides that nothing seems to be getting better and decides to drive back to Edisto and then finally get a job. The author is a winner of the Prix de Rome of the American Academy of Arts and letters, a Whiting Writer's Award, and the author has been nominated for the National Book Award.
