Lasker, Emanuel

Editorial Planeta Mexicana, SA de CV Colonia del Valle, Mexico, DF 1998
Trade Paperback
Very Good, No Jacket

Spanish Language Edition
968406098X / 9789684060982

Ex-Library

F3 - A Spanish language edition trade paperback ex-library book in good+ to very good- condition with no dust jacket as issued. A tight, clean, sound copy in color wraps with minor overall shelf wear with the usual library stamps, labels, and pocket on the top outside paper edges, copyright page, and back free endpaper. Emanuel Lasker was probably the greatest chess player of modern times. Certainly, no man has remained a champion of the world for longer than him - 28 years - and has kept his skills for so long. The secret behind his extraordinary ability may be found in Lasker's comprehensive knowledge about each of the phases of the game and his ability to remain independent of particular schools or styles. This knowledge is reflected in the 'Chess Manual', making it one of the great Game Studies, acclaimed by the world of chess since its first publication in 1992. This book is one of the most detailed studies of chess ever written, and although it is mainly useful for the intermediate or expert player, the explanations begin at a level that can be understood by the beginner. Lasker discusses the basic methods to obtain advantage, the value of the exchanging pieces, position combinations, the aesthetics of chess, and most other important aspects of the game. The book provides examinations of dozens of different openings, including the Petroff Defense, the Hungarian Defense, the King's Bishop's Opening, the Ponziani Opening, the Giuoco Piano Opening and the Four Knights Opening. Each examination includes illustratations from exhibition matches played by the great modern masters. One of the most rewarding aspects of the book is the clarification and elaboration of the theories of William Steinitz. An interesting sidelight is that although it was always believed that Lasker was Steinitz's disciple, this book actually reveals Lasker as an original and versatile player, inclined to take calculated risks. 5.1"x8.2", 317 pages. Satisfacción garantizada (satisfaction guaranteed). FL0002
