CE1 - A hard cover first edition withdrawn ex-library book in good+ condition. Stated first edition with a sequence of numbers with the "1" present and no additional printings indicated. A tight, clean, sound copy in burgandy cloth covered boards with gold lettering and graphics on the spine with minor overall shelf wear with tape staining on the outside surfaces of the front and back boards and the front and back free endpapers from where the dust jacket was taped to the boards plus there are the usual library stamps and pocket on the top outside paper edges, the front free endpaper, and the title page plus there is some very light soiling on the outside paper edges plus the book is very, very slightly shelf cocked.The dust jacket shows minor overall shelf wear with a library label on the spine plus there is some clipping of the top and bottom right corners of the front endflap plus it is still in the original library mylar sleeve. A biography of John Randolph that focuses on analyzing his eccentricities in relation to his reaction to an American regime that was evolving towards a greater and greater degree of democracy. The author presents Randolph's disagreement with what he saw as democratic corruption in relation to his eccentricities as a form of controlled protest. Endnotes, bibliography, indexed, 346p.
